PATU – the Maori art of war – Seminar at Asato Dojo

November 2, 2025 @ 9:00 am12:00 pm UTC+0

PATU – the short weapon and striking art of the Maori.
Join us for an incredible seminar experience with Tuari Dawson Sensei, teacher of both Maori combat arts and Ryukyu karate and kobudo.

Mau Rakau is a traditional martial art of the Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand. Mau Rakau means ‘to bear a weapon’ and the main weapon is the taiaha, along with other weapons such as the Patu. The Patu is employed for very close range trapping, striking and grappling and is basically a short flat club made of stone, wood or bone. This weapon is absolutely devastating and lethal in the hands of a skilled warrior.

Join us at Asato Dojo in Naha, Okinawa for this very special introduction to the art of Patu. Please use the link below to register your attendance – places are limited so please don’t delay.
Location: Asato Dojo, Naha city, Okinawa
Date & Time: Sunday November 2nd, 2025. Start time 9 AM.
