Karate Day Program at Asato Dojo
Join us for a very special Karate event at Asato Dojo in Okinawa, Japan!
International Karate Day is the highlight of the karate calendar in Okinawa and around the world. Its a day of celebration and participation in premier events centred in Okinawa, the birthplace of Karate.
This year the instructor team at Asato Dojo is very pleased to offer you the opportunity to be part of the 2026 Karate Day Program.
– You will be on the beach here in Okinawa performing karate alongside hundreds of karateka in the special events program on October 25th
– You will receive holistic and detailed instruction directly from our local Instructors (all highly ranked in Karate and Kobudo) to learn the kata (forms) required to participate in the Karate Day Challenge
– You will also learn the applications of these classic karate kata for your own self defence and personal development. These skills will enhance your physical and mental resilience and wellbeing.
– You will train twice daily over a 5 day program. It will be challenging but hugely rewarding to participants of all levels of experience and fitness – we welcome complete beginners at karate to our program if you have the commitment to see it through!
– If you have a karate or other martial arts background we look forward to working with you to reveal the “secrets” of Okinawan karate – we are confident you will enhance your existing martial skills and knowledge
– Your one program fee includes welcome dinner and celebration party costs, provision of a karate dogi for the duration of the program (if you need one), all teaching fees and participation fees, tour day ticket
Program Schedule:
October 18th – Arrive, check in, Orientation Meeting at the dojo, dinner with program participants and instructors (Sunday night)
October 19th – 10 AM Training (2 hours), 7pm Training (2 hours) – kata and applications, fitness and skills development
October 20th – 10 AM Training (2 hours), 7pm Training (2 hours) – kata and applications, fitness and skills development
October 21st – 10 AM Training (2 hours), 7pm Training (2 hours) – kata and applications, fitness and skills development
October 22nd – 10 AM Training (2 hours), 7pm Training (2 hours) – kata and applications, fitness and skills development
October 23rd – 10 AM Training (2 hours), 7pm Training (2 hours) – kata and applications, fitness and skills development
October 24th – rest day, with option to join us for a historical karate locations walking tour through Naha/Tomari/Shuri
October 25th – the 100 Kata Challenge event – you will join us for the world famous 100 Kata Challenge on the beach in Okinawa. This Challenge event is the highlight of the Karate year and is performed on the same day by karateka all around the world.
Evening celebration party and dinner – join us for the 100 Kata afterparty! (location TBC)
During this program you will learn traditional Okinawan Kata – such as Fukyukata Ichi, Ni and San and self defence applications for techniques from each of these kata. These kata represent the 3 major schools of Okinawan karate, Shorin-ryu, Goju-ryu and Uechi-ryu. These styles are the ancestor styles for all schools of karate around the world today including Shotokan, Shito-ryu, Wado-ryu, Kyokushinkai and many many more.
