In these seminars James Pankiewicz will teach essential fundamentals of Okinawa karate, drills to build core karate skills, based on Tomari-te kata and a range of applications based on close range seizing and striking, the core aspects of traditional Okinawan karate.
We will explore concepts such as
Meotodi – working the two hands together – kamae structure for irimi, for aitsuki, for koshihineri, receive and strike in one motion…
Makidi – wrapping hands, capturing & trapping skills, double percussive strikes
Hindi – changing hands, quick reversal and counter attacking techniques and much more…
In addition in some seminars we will also look at how the foundation skills of Shorin-ryu karate underpin dynamic bojitsu (staff fighting) techniques and kata. Drawing on the Yamane-ryu traditions passed down through the Matsubayashi-ryu system.
